Tracing the history of our packaging machine

Although their origins differ depending on the wrapping form, in TAM, the wrapping as protection of the product by automatic machine was 1942, that the tobacco wrapping machine had been developed.

“The latter half of the20th century is the era of wrapping revolution” that TAM had conveyed at the time. From 1950’s we have developed various wrapping machine one after another.

By developing automated machinery for wrapping many kinds of products, we have contributed to the customer’s productivity as well the industrial development and society.

The line-up of TAM in 1950’s to 1980s is tobacco wrapping machine as main product, overwrapping(cellophane) machines, bread wrapping machines, stick gum wrapping machines and vertical-form-fill-seal machines.

In 1990’s, auger type filling machine, film overwrapping machine for CD or DVD are also the mainstay as demands shifts.

“Something that never change while others change” the consumption of tobacco started decreasing with the times of health-conscious, CD and DVD has been replaced to subscription services. It is a fact that the demand of those wrapping machine has decreased.

Developed machines created new value of package with the time change, and the present is built on the development. The application of robotics technology, which began in the late 1990s with the goal of “factory automation,” enabled the realization of necessary processes without relying on human labor, thereby advancing “packaging.”

From now on, AI technology will be used-we will actively utilize AI in our machine to develop ”Packaging”.

Packaging technology and Interface

In the history of TAM, one of the long selling machine s is Vertical Form Fill Seal machine. The first model is TWS, developed in 1964. Then, the model had improved and changed to TWX1 in 1890. To meet the growing demand, this model had good sales record and widely used not just in Japan but as well in the world.

The technology at the time is in general the parts linkage mechanism that driven by one motor to make one wrapping.

Later, by the improvement of industrial technologies, the idea of “Human Machine Interface(HMI)” is reflected in touch panel. As a result, more detailed information can be displayed that improve production control. Furthermore, utilizing sequence control and servomotor has developed another new model that has higher quality of sealing and forming bag.

The model TWJB,TWJE and TWFX in our current line-up is versatile to produce a wide range of packaging style as well as the state-of-art technology.

The development of “Packaging” reflects consumers’ behavior. By responding the demands the new models such as VFFS machine with zipper, triangle shape Quattro pack machine have been developed. Both are now one of TAM’s main lineup.
