Purpose and effect
The quality of packaging finish by VFFS machine is one of the key factors customers care about. In the packaging process it is general to pack the bags into larger bags or cartons after bagging the contents for transport purpose. Packaging machine manufacturer is required to pursue the packaging finish with taking account the situation.
As shown in the picture above, whether the bag finish should be with inflating air or removing air from bag is often is influenced by the product characteristics and the logistic environment in each country.
In Southeast Asia, a packaging finish with inflated air is often preferred. This is because products need to be protected from impact during inland transportation or when exporting to other countries. Therefore, bags are intentionally air-inflated. This also helps ensure better protection inside the bag.
On the other hand, in Japan, European countries and Southeast Asia (for powder product), packaging finishes that moderately reduce air content are often preferred, as it provides an attractive appearance while also helping to inhibit oxidation by reducing oxygen inside the package. Furthermore, by reducing the volume of the product, more bags can be packed into cardboard boxes or large bags for secondary packaging, which is expected to reduce material costs.

However, in fact, Products listed below have a variety of shapes, sizes, specific gravity and adherability.
Next, we will now show you the installation locations for each device in VFFS. Air inflation device is mounted at upper side of the end-sealing device as the air need to be inflated before bag is heat-sealed. (An air deflator in yellow in the picture below is installed at upper side of heater blocks.) Air removal device, on the contrary, is mounted under the end-sealing device as letting the out before bag is heat-sealed. Generally, the air inflating or deflating device is mounted with the end-sealing device to operate together. Air cylinder or servo motor are also used to operate as an individual unit depending on the product characteristics in cases where stabilization of air volume (inflation/deflation) is required or, to reduce powder dust generated during air discharge.
While sponge is the most common material, the hardness, shape, and material may vary depending on the product.
We also incorporate features that allow for precise adjustment of the mounting position.


Other method of air deflation
With regard to air deflation, there is another method if inner contents are packed individual package. one is making small hole on the film during the film transfer process before forming bag by mounting punch hole device to let the air evacuate. The location of punch hole can be adjustable, but generally it is set in an inconspicuous area such as the back side of vertical seal.
The another less conspicuous way is to use vertical heater block with maze-like surface so that the air evacuates from the back seal.
We propose the best solution from the consumer’s perspective that is based on our experiential knowledge.

Concerns and solution for Air deflation
Regarding specific product, there is a concern that may arise by air deflation. That is floating the powder dust. When pushing out the bag for removing air some particle of powder are caught in the sealing area. Seal contamination could lead to a crucial quality issue. TAM can address the possible issue.
